The Collegium for Medieval and Early Mordern Studies
The medieval and early modern period are among the main areas of research and teaching in the arts and humanities at the University of Würzburg. The different disciplines dealing with the period from the early Middle Ages to the early 18th century have come together in a Collegium in order to pool their expertise and intensify research and academic exchange.
The initiative came from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, whose subjects are most strongly represented in the Collegium: History (Medieval History, Franconian Regional History, Modern History), Art History, Romance Philology, German Literature, German Linguistics, English Literature and Culture, English Linguistics, European Ethnology/Folklore, Latin Studies, Slavic Studies, Museology and Musicology. Other faculties include History of Philosophy and Science, History of Law, Church History and History of Medicine. The Martin-von-Wagner-Museum is the nominal seat of the Collegium and one of the university's central institutions. The activities of the Collegium are
- Research in the fields of medieval and early modern studies (academic publications, conferences, collaborative projects)
- An interdisciplinary Master's programme "Medieval and Early Modern Studies"
- PhD programme in Medieval and Early Modern Studies (graduate school)
- Third-mission, community-oriented activities (lecture series, lectures)
